About Foot Reflexology During Pregnancy
At Dr. Foot, we prioritize the safety of our pregnant customers. Foot reflexology is a therapeutic treatment that stimulates various reflex zones on the feet to support health, but special considerations are needed during pregnancy.
Caution Early to Mid-Pregnancy
During early pregnancy through the end of the first trimester, we recommend avoiding foot reflexology treatments for the safety of both mother and baby. The soles of the feet contain reflex zones that correspond to the uterus and ovaries, and strong stimulation should be avoided.
Welcome Second Trimester Onward
Once you reach the second trimester (generally from month 5 of pregnancy), consult with your doctor and you may be able to receive treatment. We will adjust the intensity of pressure and focus on reflex zones appropriate for your condition.
Requests When Visiting
For your safety, we ask that you please follow these guidelines:
- Always inform us that you are pregnant when booking or visiting
- Tell us your current week of pregnancy and how you are feeling
- Confirm that your obstetrician has approved reflexology
- Immediately inform our staff if you notice any changes in your condition during treatment
- Bringing your maternal health handbook is reassuring
Reflex Zones to Avoid During Pregnancy
During pregnancy treatment, we avoid strong stimulation to the following reflex zones and use a gentle touch instead.
Instead, we can focus on calf care which effectively reduces swelling and coldness, and highly relaxing treatment.
Common Concerns During Pregnancy and Foot Reflexology
Foot reflexology can be helpful in addressing the following concerns that arise with your body's changes during pregnancy.
Foot Swelling
Changes in hormone balance and increased blood volume can cause foot swelling. Appropriate stimulation to the calves and soles of the feet can promote circulation and help reduce swelling.
Cold Extremities
As your abdomen grows, circulation tends to worsen. Foot reflexology stimulates blood flow to the extremities and helps improve coldness.
Relaxation & Stress Relief
Pregnancy can be a time of physical and emotional stress. Foot reflexology treatment has strong relaxation effects and helps refresh both body and mind.
